Intermediate Program

Players will be introduced to drills and play exercises to enhance their basic skill-set. Players will be couched to use a variety of strokes in games, basic strategy of doubles and singles games and to achieve a higher level of mobility on the court (court movement). Drills will focus on the key components of the basic strokes and execution in the correct order. Coaches will encourage players to develop a sense of rhythm during practice. Repetition will be at the players own pace and under conditions that are stable, easy and safe.

Objectives

  • Universal grip
  • A basic understanding of the laws of badminton
  • Keeping score during games (out loud)
  • 1 to 2-step drills meant to mimic game play scenarios
  • Longer duration of drills with intensity will
  • Consistent service, with emphasis on short doubles and long singles service
  • 6 point footwork with a split step and a gradual increase in speed
  • Singles and doubles strategy
  • Follow proper badminton etiquette
  • Play time with coaches and more advanced players in order to challenge players
  • Players will be encouraged to enter tournaments outside of the club
